25 reasons to not reproduce:
- 1. Life is full of inevitable pain
- 2. No one can consent to birth
- 3. You can have sex without producing children
- 4. Every life necessitates a death (every cradle is a grave)
- 5. Life is boring and monotonous
- 6. Life feeds on life (sentient or otherwise)
- 7. Life has no objective meaning or goal
- 8. Life is full of minor annoyances
- 9. Most of your life is spent doing things you have to do, rather than things you want to do
- 10. Even the things you want to do with your life are inconsequential at best, or destructive at worst (in the sense of inflicting suffering upon other life)
- 11. There are too many people already
- 12. No individual can expect to meaningfully improve the lives of anyone else, on any kind of relevant scale
- 13. Your life, in all likelihood, will be forgotten about
- 14. If you do, against all odds, manage to join the “human canon” of so-called “great historical figures,” you will not be around to see it, so it makes no difference. Moreover, the memory of you is not guaranteed any sort of accuracy
- 15. Humans (and all other forms of life) will eventually become extinct. This is inevitable
- 16. Life is full of temporary, fleeting pleasure
- 17. There is no justification for having children outside of egotistical reasons
- 18. Your genes are not unique, superior, or transcendent in any way (and neither is anyone else’s)
- 19. There’s a non-zero chance your child will be born with an inheritable disease, gene mutation or otherwise suffering-inducing form of ailment
- 20. Even if your child is a 7 foot 10 gigachad A10 eyes alpha brain genius great artist philosopher inventor king warrior poet prophet (etc.), his life is not exempt from any of the other statements
- 21. No one can truly be prepared to be a parent, even if they’ve had children before, every life is different and requires different things
- 22. Humanity inflicts the most amount of suffering on other forms of life (it isn’t even close) - what good do we do for ourselves? For animals? For plants?
- 23. More humans requires more resources (equals greater exploitation of humans, animals, plants, soil, air, earth, etc.)
- 24. More humans, more suffering. Less humans, less suffering (this is not exclusive to humans)
- 25. Life sucks. Why pretend otherwise?
